EDEXCHANGE
>> WHAT ISEDEXCHANGE?
EDEXCHANGE is a data exchange service offered and operated by PESC and directly managed by PESC Members. The foundation of the service is a directory 'look up' server that lists institutions, service providers and others that are able to exchange data electronically. The server itemizes the technical capacity of each, which document types are supported electronically and additional identifier data. To exchange data, users then connect directly with the respective recipient.
>> HOW DID EDEXCHANGE START?
EDEXCHANGE is a project of PESC's Common Data Services Task Force (CDS launched at Fall 2011 Data Summit)., California's Community College Technology Center requested through PESC the formation of CDS and EDEXCHANGE, and have remained consistent leaders and participants, dedicating resources, hardware, software, and technical staff to run the service in test and throughout the pilot phase.
>> WHO IS INVOLVED WITH EDEXCHANGE?
EDEXCHANGE is currently in pilot phase with seven (7) organizations: the California Community Colleges, Credentials Solutions, Digitary, Educational Credential Evaluators, National Student Clearinghouse, Parchment and University of Phoenix.
>> WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF EDEXCHANGE?
EDEXCHANGE provides those that use, collect or exchange data with a consistent, reliable, open, cross-sector standardized option for data exchange. Whether institutions connect directly or use a third party service provider, EDEXCHANGE serves both, providing data exchange services for all educational needs.
>> HOW IS EDEXCHANGE GOVERNED?
The EDEXCHANGE User Group established a Steering Committee in 2015, ultimately governed by the PESC Board of Directors, to administer more direct management, oversight and strategic planning of EDEXCHANGE. The Steering Committee is made up of nine PESC member representatives, is diverse, representing the various sectors across education, is semi-autonomous, and is responsible for the overall management and operation of EDEXCHANGE.
>> WHAT IS THE CURRENT STATUS OF EDEXCHANGE?
EDEXCHANGE is in pilot phase. In 2016, PESC called for pilot participants and the following six organizations that responded are all in some varying degree of progress within their respective pilots: the California Community Colleges, Credentials Solutions, Educational Credential Evaluators, National Student Clearinghouse, Parchment, University of Phoenix.
>> HOW MUCH DOES EDEXCHANGE COST?
EDEXCHANGE seeks wide adoption. In order to achieve this mission, it is envisioned that EDEXCHANGE users would remit a nominal, annual subscription service fee allowing unlimited use of the service while general lookup would be free of charge.
>> HOW DO I GET INVOLVED WITH EDEXCHANGE?
EDEXCHANGE User Group meetings were put on hold during the COVID-19 pandemic and will resume soon.
