Admissions Workgroup

FOR STANDARDIZING RECRUITMENT DATA

>> WHAT IS THE ADMISSIONS WORKGROUP FOR STANDARDIZING RECRUITMENT DATA?

This WORKGROUP is an open, development group of volunteers under the Standards Forum for Education within PESC focused on standardizing prospective student data collected, purchased, surveyed, shared, and/or licensed for use by institutions, organizations, schools, colleges & universities, districts & states, service providers & vendors for admissions and recruitment processes.  The WORKGROUP conducts its activities primarily by conference call and webinar and meets in-person at key events and conferences.

>> HOW DID THE WORKGROUP START?

This WORKGROUP began in September 2016 and was formed by the University of Iowa.  Significant outreach was conducted to ensure broad participation and meetings were held at certain NACAC events.  In 2017, PESC was invited to participate.  At AACRAO's Annual Meeting in March 2018, at a session presented by Michael Hovland of the University of Iowa, agreement was reached for PESC to formally adopt this initiative as a development workgroup.

>> WHO IS INVOLVED WITH THE  WORKGROUP?

The WORKGROUP includes many leading institutions, service providers and vendors in admissions recruitment and enrollment.  The WORKGROUP is open and participation is free to institutions, service providers and vendors, while decision-making and voting is limited to PESC Members.

>> WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF THE WORKGROUP?

Current recruitment data provided by vendors to institutions and other stakehoiders is not currently standardized. Due to the nature of the competitive environment combined with legacy issues, the WORKGROUP is the first effort to bring vendors and campuses together to work on this important issue.  The current state of non-standardization is exacerbated as an increasing number of new data providers enter the marketplace with unique and proprietary layouts and formats.  This initiative seeks to provide a voluntary standard, which would eliminate proprietary formats and ease the burden of institutions to standardize the vendor data they import.

>> HOW IS THE WORKGROUP GOVERNED?

The WORKGROUP is a development group under the Standards Forum for Education within PESC, ultimately governed by the PESC Board of Directors.  The WORKGROUP encourages active participation and diverse membership.  It is semi-autonomous, reporting directly to the PESC Board of Directors, and is responsible for its overall activities, communications, meetings, and outreach.  The WORKGROUP Chair is from a PESC Member organization appointed by the PESC Board of Directors.

>> WHAT IS THE CURRENT STATUS OF THE WORKGROUP?

The WORKGROUP is actively in the development state, is forming subcommittees and welcomes new participants, as approved by the Chair.

>> HOW MUCH DOES THE WORKGROUP COST?

The WORKGROUP is an open, transparent and collaborative development group seeking broad participation and is therefore open to all institutions, service providers, vendors, organizations and all stakeholders with an interest in standardizing recruitment data; participation in the WORKGROUP is free of charge.

>> HOW DO I GET INVOLVED WITH THE WORKGROUP?

The WORKGROUP is open to institutions, service providers, vendors, organizations and all stakeholders with an interest in standardizing recruitment data.  Join the WORKGROUP by contacting PESC or the Chair directly.
