​​that pilots and launches data standards using an open, transparent and collaborative process; that governs resource mapping and maintenance of education ecosystem taxonomies, schemas and shared code sets in various technologies (e.g. EDI, XML, PDF, JSON) produced as PESC APPROVED STANDARDS.  


PESC APPROVED STANDARDS are platform, system & application neutral; adopted & integrated in systems, networks, applications, products & services; support a transaction or business process, and; can be used or implemented one independently from another.​​​​

​​While PESC promotes the implementation and usage of data standards, PESC does not set (create or establish) policies related to data privacy, protection and security. Organizations and entities using PESC APPROVED STANDARDS, Technology and Services should ensure they comply with GDPR, FERPA and all local, state, federal and international rules on data privacy, protection and security as applicable.​​​​​​

The Postsecondary Electronic Standards Council (PESC) is an open standards-development and open standards-setting body (governed by a voluntary, consensus-based model), independently funded by annual membership dues, meetings and sponsorships, enabling PESC to support, publish and maintain PESC Approved Standards and technical information free and without charge.

Through open, transparent, collaborative community participation and based on a voluntary consensus-based model, PESC enables cost-effective connectivity between data systems, applications and networks in order to accelerate performance and service, to simplify data access and research, and to improve data quality along the learner lifecycle.
